I almost deleted the app at 3:40 AM. I was done. Every match was a bot, a skip, or someone who vanished after two words, and I was one click from uninstalling everything.
I gave it one last chance, and that’s when I matched her.
She was just sitting there in a hoodie, no makeup, holding a mug, looking as tired as I felt. I said “last match of the night” and she said “same, honestly.” And then, instead of the usual weirdness, we just talked. About why we were both still awake, about how exhausting it is to keep pressing next, about the good nights that make it worth it.
She told me about a match she’d had months ago that she still thinks about, and she said “you don’t get those by quitting early. You get them by staying long enough to be surprised.”
I didn’t uninstall anything. We talked until the sun came up, and when we finally said bye she said “see you around, and don’t you dare give up on the next button.”
That was three weeks ago and I’ve had two genuinely great matches since. She was right. If you’re about to give up, don’t. The good ones are out there, you just have to stick with platforms that aren’t full of bots and set up a session that actually works. One more try changed everything for me.
